If the playoffs started today, the Pittsburgh Steelers would host the Los Angeles Chargers in one of the AFC wild-card round games.
They don’t, but the two sides are playing anyway. A Sunday Night Football affair between the Chargers and Steelers highlights the week 13 schedule, making it the Sun handicapping contest’s game of the week.
That means each of the three competing sports writers must make one of six weekly wagers off of the South Point betting board on the contest.
The Steelers are currently 3.5-point favorites — with the over/under set at 52 points — to show how closely contested the two sides appear. Los Angeles comes into the game 8-3 straight-up, 6-5 against the spread with a plus-88 point differential, while Pittsburgh sits at 7-3-1 straight-up, 6-4 against the spread with a plus-67 point differential.
Both are led by 36-year-old quarterbacks likely bound for the Hall of Fame. The Chargers’ Philip Rivers is having an exceptional year, setting behind only MVP favorites Drew Brees and Patrick Mahomes in passer rating. The Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger isn’t having one of his better seasons but that’s only because of how high he’s set the bar; he’s still second in the NFL with 3,664 total passing yards.
