Wentz over Redskins

The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Washington Redskins plus-6 at Philadelphia Eagles: $990 to win $900

There are plenty of reasons to pick against Washington tonight: the starting quarterback is out for the year, the star running back is embroiled in another child-abuse controversy, and the team just picked up the very troubled Reuben Foster off waivers. That's all bad, so the team has plenty of excuses if they want to pack it in on Monday Night Football and let the Eagles trounce them.

But can Philadelphia take advantage of it? The Eagles haven't been right all season, perhaps dealing with a Super Bowl hangover, and while they are still very much in the playoff hunt, there is no guarantee they play a clean game tonight.

There's just something off about Philadelphia, in my opinion. Even with all the distractions flying around in the Washington locker room, I think they'll cover as underdogs and maybe even win outright.

Current Standings: Keefer (18-17-2, $9,836), Brewer (11-12-1, $9,260) Emerson (0-0, $8,425), Grimala (11-10-1, $6,305)
