Vegas Play of the Day: Magic vs. Raptors

Kyle Lowry

Miami Heat guard Goran Dragic (7) takes control of a loose ball from Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry (7) on Saturday, May 7, 2016, during the first half.

The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Orlando Magic plus-5.5 vs. Toronto Raptors, $770 to win $700: Toronto might be the best team in the NBA so far this season, but the Raptors aren't nearly as good without All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry, who has missed five of the last six games with an ankle injury. The Raps are 3-2 in those games, and two of the wins were within one possession.

With Lowry out for tonight's game at Orlando, it leaves the door open for the struggling Magic — losers of four in a row — to take a whack at a conference leader on pretty good terms.

A bad Orlando team, at home, will keep pace with the Lowry-less Raptors to the very end and cover the spread.

Current Standings: Brewer (14-12-1, $10,460), Keefer (19-19-2, $8,296), Emerson (1-2, $7,862), Grimala (11-12-1, $4,345)
