Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras (40) celebrates this third inning solo home run during the Major League Baseball All-star Game, Tuesday, July 17, 2018 in Washington.

The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun’s sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Arizona Diamondbacks minus-103 at Chicago Cubs, $618 to win $600: The Cubs have one of baseball's most dangerous offenses, as they rank fourth in runs per game (5.17). But Arizona starter Patrick Corbin had a breakout first half (6-4, 3.24 ERA, 1.05 WHIP), and he has the kind of swing-and-miss stuff that can work through the Chicago lineup (11.0 strikeouts per 9 innings). And Corbin will have another advantage, as this will be his first appearance against the Cubs this season.

Unfamiliarity usually works in favor of the pitcher. Corbin will hold down the Cubs offense and deliver a road win.

Keefer (3-1, $10,760), Granger (1-0, $10,155), Grimala (2-2, $9,900), Brewer (2-3, $9,560)
