Vegas Play of the Day: Red Sox vs. Angels

Mike Trout

American League’s Mike Trout, of the Los Angeles Angels, holds the MVP trophy after the MLB All-Star baseball game, Tuesday, July 14, 2015, in Cincinnati. The American League won 6-3.

We’ve entered the fourth season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. A participant's failure to place a bet on their scheduled day results in a $200 bankroll penalty.

Ray Brewer won back-to-back titles in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-15.

Los Angeles Angels plus-$182 at Boston Red Sox: $500 to win $910

After looking over today's World Cup schedule, I realized I know nothing about soccer. So, baseball!

David Price is having a somewhat solid season on the surface (8-5, 3.81 ERA), but today's matchup against the Los Angeles Angles looks like a dangerous situation. Price is missing fewer bats than ever: His WHIP (1.214) is the highest it's been since 2009 and his strikeouts per walk ratio (2.65) is his worst mark since 2010. Which means a deep lineup can wear him out and score some runs.

The Angels aren't world-beaters offensively, but they are top 10 in MLB in plate appearances per game and on-base percentage. It's a lineup that can keep pressure on Price and eventually break through with a crooked number. With this line, I'll wager on Los Angeles and hope for a Price meltdown.

Keefer (36-29-1, $11,156), Granger (17-17, $8,059), Grimala (17-24, $4,050), Brewer (28-31-1, $3,640)
