The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Boise State plus-3 vs. Fresno State: $660 to win $600

Fresno State has covered seven straight and gone 19-2-1 against the spread over the last two seasons. But all streaks come to an end.

The tricky part for gamblers is trying to figure out when they will come to an end. The blue turf at Albertson’s Stadium looks like the most likely culmination point for this one.

To no fault of the Bulldogs’ own, they’ve faced an extremely weak schedule in racking up the blowouts this season. This will be by far their toughest test, tough enough to where they probably shouldn’t be laying points.

Boise State was a 14-point favorite in this spot earlier in the year, and although they’ve lost a pair of games, the Broncos have still been one of the better Group of Five conference teams. They have a massive home field advantage and it’s a little jarring to see them taking points there.

This should be a close game, one that the Broncos just might pull out in the end.

Current Standings: Keefer (14-13-2, $8,431), Grimala (10-9, $6,565), Brewer (6-11-1, $5,800)
