Vegas Play of the Day: Los Angeles Clippers at Washington Wizards

The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Washington Wizards plus-1 vs. Los Angeles Clippers: $330 to win $300

The Wizards are a complete disaster. Their players have long not gotten along with each other, but now there are reports that they’re also feuding with the front office.

It’s one of the biggest stories in the NBA, and the repercussions have spread to the betting market. No one wants to bet on Washington, and the aversion has become so strong that now the only value actually remains on actually betting on Washington.

To simplify, here’s the deal: There’s no way the Wizards should be a home underdog to a less-talented team playing on a back-to-back and its third game in four days.

The Clippers are the antithesis to the Wizards in a lot of ways. They appear to have real chemistry, which has allowed them to win five straight despite not having a roster that sticks out as particularly strong.

But they’ve been so successful that they’ve now become overvalued. The Wizards can be in disarray and still beat the Clippers.

Current Standings: Keefer (17-14-2, $9,406), Brewer (8-11-1, $7,200), Grimala (10-10-1, $5,705)
