The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun’s sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.
Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.
Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.
Denver Nuggets minus-2.5 at Los Angeles Lakers, $660 to win $600: The Lakers have dominated early-season coverage of the NBA despite not being a very good team yet, and that's understandable since LeBron James is always the biggest story in the league. But LeBron's L.A. story has overshadowed the hot start of the Nuggets, who appear ready to take the next step to legitimate playoff contention.
Denver has won its first four games, including a victory over Golden State, and the Nuggets have averaged 113 points per contest. Even though this game is in Los Angeles, I think the Nuggets will be able to score with ease and run out to another victory. I like Denver to win and cover.
