The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun’s sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Joe Burrow, please be the one. LSU is a quarterback away from being a legitimate threat this season.

Problem is, it's been that way for many years now with the Tigers. Other problem is, no one really knows for sure whether the Ohio State transfer Burrow is the answer.

What we do know: Malik Rosier isn't the next Vinny Testaverde for the Hurricanes. Miami would have likely made the College Football Playoff last year if it had a steadier presence behind center.

The Hurricanes had a dream season through the first 11 weeks, and we know what usually happens the year after an out-of-the-blue dream season — regression. Miami should be solid, but not outstanding this season.

LSU will also be solid, but with a chance to go a step beyond if Burrow busts out. Getting more than a field goal with either team represents too many points.

Current Standings: Keefer (8-5, $10,618), Grimala (6-3, $10,300), Granger (4-1, $9,955), Brewer (3-6, $7,500)
