Vegas Play of the Day: UNR at Vandy

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Vandy minus-9.5 vs. UNR: $660 to win $600

The Southeastern Conference, depending on whom you talk with, is considered college football’s best league. Sure, Vandy is typically near the bottom of the SEC standings. But it is still a SEC team, and won convincingly, 35-7, last week.

UNR plays in the Mountain West. Some years, the league has a team or two worthy of being in the top 25 — OK, every year with Boise State. UNR isn’t one of them. So, here’s a good rule of thumb: When a Mountain West team travels to a SEC opponent in a million-dollar payday game, wager on the team that’s expected to win.

UNR blew out Portland State 72-19 last week. However, it trailed early, and was only able to run away because lower-level Portland State ran out of gas. Vandy won’t have those problems.

Vandy quarterback Kyle Shurmur is a fourth-year starter and very reliable with the football. He won’t put the offense into many bad situations. But the Vandy defense is young with five first-time starters and 10 others who made their initial performance last week. That means UNR, whose passing game is strong, could find some success through the air.

But Middle Tennessee State, which Vandy beat last week and is comparable to UNR, couldn’t.

Current Standings: Keefer (10-5, $11,418), Grimala (6-3, $10,300), Granger (4-3, $9,225), Brewer (3-7, $7,000)
