Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley scores past Dallas Cowboys cornerback Chidobe Awuzie during the first half in an NFL divisional football playoff game Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, in Los Angeles.

The sixth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now underway, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2018-19 and 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Los Angeles Rams minus-2.5 at Arizona Cardinals: $990 to win $900

The Rams remain one of the most talented teams in the NFL. Now is the time to put that knowledge into action and buy low on Los Angeles.

This line is a big over-reaction to the Rams' 45-6 loss to the Ravens last week as 3.5-point underdogs. The Cardinals are far from the Rams.

In fact, Arizona's scoring margin on the year is more than 100 points less than Baltimore's. The Cardinals are at minus-69, meaning their record could be even worse than their current 3-7-1 mark.

I'm ready to sell high on the Cardinals off of three straight covers — depending on what number is used for their 36-26 loss to the 49ers two weeks ago. Preseason, the line on this game was Los Angeles minus-8.

Even last week it was Los Angeles minus-3.5. Some adjustment is necessary, but this goes too far. The Rams should win by at least a field goal.

Current Standings: Grimala (10-4, $10,105), Keefer (18-16-2, $8,005), Emerson (10-14, $7,890), Brewer (8-9, $6,885)
