Vegas Play of the Day: Suns vs. Wizards

The sixth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now underway, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2018-19 and 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Phoenix Suns minus-7.5 vs. Washington Wizards: $440 to win $400

As a Suns fan who existed in the last decade, it's difficult for me to think of Phoenix having a good team. Once the news of Deandre Ayton's suspension came down, there was a definite feeling of "here we go again." Yet here we are.

They've had a bit of a rough patch with four losses in their last five games, but two of those losses were to the the Celtics and Nuggets. It happens. Now they get to return home to face a 5-10 Wizards squad in the middle of a four-game road trip, all against teams in a playoff position.

The Suns get the home-court advantage against a bad team, all while trying to prove the hot start to the year wasn't a fluke. They should cover 7.5.

Current Standings: Grimala (10-4, $10,505), Keefer (18-15-2, $8,995), Emerson (10-13, $8,330), Brewer (8-9, $7,535)
