Published on Fri, Dec 7, 2012 (11:59 a.m.)

Non-profit agencies collaborate to host the Annual Candlelighters Holiday Party for children diagnosed with cancer who may not otherwise experience holiday traditions

Las Vegas, Nev. (Dec. 7, 2012)

WHO: Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada (CCCFN) partners with Nevada Health Centers (NVHC), National Charity League (NCL) and National Association of Catering Executives (NACE) and Alan Wexler Group (AWG) to host a one-of-a-kind, holiday extravaganza for children diagnosed with cancer. All non-profits have pitched in their resources, volunteers and time to make this event more memorable than the last.

WHAT: The CCCFN holiday party is once a year for children and families that have been affected by cancer. This year, NACE will deck the halls of Nevada Health Centers to create a winter wonderland complete with Santa, Christmas carolers, face painting, festive arts and crafts and holiday treats and of course cookies and milk. Entertainment will be provided by DJ Baby Chino and volunteers dressed up as Disney Princesses will mingle with the children.

Each child will participate in as many activities as they choose while also receiving a photo with Santa and a goody bag filled with holiday activities, candy canes and coloring book.

“Our holiday party is a signature event that means the world to our families. Some kids diagnosed with cancer are not able to enjoy the simplicities of the holidays, like visiting Santa. Candlelighters hosts the annual party to create a safe and fun environment for the whole family,” Melissa Cipriano said, Executive Director of CCCFN.

The event is not open to the public.

About Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada (CCCFN):
CCCFN a non-profit agency that provides support and services for families of children diagnosed with cancer. Children from birth to 21 years of age who have been diagnosed with cancer or who have survived cancer are eligible for services if they are living or being treated in Nevada.

Chartered in 1978, CCCFN was founded by two families, each of whom had a child being treated for cancer. They believed that families could find strength, knowledge and comfort by banding together during their most difficult times. They wanted to use their experience to lessen the burden of those they knew would follow. Since that time, over 2,000 children in Nevada have been diagnosed with cancer.

In the beginning, Candlelighters handled the needs of families entirely through a dedicated group of volunteers. Experienced parents were on-call 24 hours a day to counsel newly diagnosed families and assist them with their concerns.

Today, CCCFN serves approximately 100 families monthly, and as many as 600 families throughout the year. Candlelighters maintains a full-time office with professional staff available at all times for family

There are no membership requirements or fees for families. A diagnosis of childhood cancer is the only requirement to become eligible for services. Referrals can come from any source as long as the family approves.
