Famed UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian is putting his name and support behind Team Focus’ 5K runs in Las Vegas this February and May. These events are part of the Bolt Series. “My idea was to bring a couple of high-quality running event to Las Vegas that would highlight the great work that Team Focus does in helping fatherless boys. Jerry Tarkanian is a big supporter of that initiative and is enthusiastically backing both events”, said Stephen Bolt, founder of the Bolt Series (

“Las Vegas plays host to countless high quality events with name brand star power”, said Bolt. “The Tarkanian Shark Attack 5K will be a runner’s version of that tradition”. There are two runs currently scheduled, the first of which will be February 23 with a starting time for the 5K of 9:00 a.m. The course traverses the UNLV campus and the event is being directed by Tim Kelly, the President of the Las Vegas Track Club.

“We invite everyone to come out and meet Stephen Bolt, the first American to run under four minutes in the mile and under two hours and 15 minutes in the marathon. That combination is almost unheard of and is exactly why Stephen was inducted into the State Of Alabama Sports Hall Of Fame” says Kelly. “Meet him in person, ask him questions, and get advice or an autograph”. Bolt ran at the University of Alabama before joining Nike’s elite racing team Athletics West.
TheTarkanian Shark Attack features both a certified 5k and a one mile fun run along with traffic control, food, aid stations, T shirts, vendors and even a disc jockey. Registration is handled by “We want everyone to come out and celebrate, healthy living, physical fitness, family fun and life itself”, says Kelly. “Helping a wonderful organization like Team Focus makes the entire event just that much more fulfilling!”
