LAS VEGAS, NV., Mar 29, 2013 – Vegas Roots Community Garden (VegasRoots.org), the first public access community garden in Las Vegas, is hosting a micro-granting event entitled Vegas SOUP on Sunday, Apr 7th, 2013 at 5:30 pm on the Garden’s property at 715 N. Tonopah Drive.
Vegas SOUP is organized by Rosalind Brooks, the Director of Vegas Roots Community Garden, a non-profit organization.
Brooks says “Vegas SOUP is one of my favorite events that we host here at the garden. It’s something about reaching out and helping others who also have a passion for serving that inspires me to do more, give more, and be more!"
SOUP is an acronym for Support, Organize and Unite People and is an international movement to provide micro-grant funding for entrepreneurs and change agents in communities throughout America as well as several other countries around the world.
Grant applicants provide a short presentation during a meal – usually soup - after which attendees vote on the project they feel is most worthy of the funding.
Ideal projects to be considered for the micro-grant involve helping the chronically under-served in the local community, such as children, the homeless, veterans and the elderly.
Since Vegas SOUP is hosted at Vegas Roots Community Garden, the vegan soup meal prepared for the events is sourced from right out of the diverse selection of organic vegetables grown in the garden.
Admission to Vegas SOUP is a $10 dollar donation that provides not only an excellent, nutritious meal, but also the ability to vote on a project that will positively change the community.
Parking at the Garden is plentiful and free.
This event is open to the public and all are invited. No RSVP is necessary.
