Bank robberies end with arrests

Two men have been arrested after separate robberies at local banks.

The latest heists bring the Clark County total for the year to 43, compared with 15 during the same period last year, according to an FBI official.

Michael Edward Curse, 36, of Las Vegas was arraigned in federal court Monday on charges of robbing a Bank of America branch at 2595 E. Fremont St.

Witnesses told police that Curse walked into the bank Friday, handed a note to a teller and demanded money. He didn't have a weapon. The teller handed the robber money and he left.

"After he robbed the bank, he jumped on the Showboat shuttle bus to make his getaway," an FBI agent said.

Police located Curse on the Showboat shuttle at Boulder Highway and St. Louis Avenue. He was arrested and an undisclosed amount of cash was confiscated.

Craig Daniel Perry, 30, also of Las Vegas, was arrested Saturday in the armed robbery of a Bank of America branch at 3450 E. Tropicana Ave. earlier that day.

About 9:30 a.m., a man entered the branch, approached a teller and demanded all her $100 bills. After he was told the teller didn't have $100 bills, he hesitated and left the bank. He was seen leaving the bank parking lot in a beige pickup.

About noon, a man matching the description of the earlier robber walked into the U.S. Bank at 2135 S. Decatur Blvd. He approached a teller and said, "Give me all your money. I'm armed." The teller handed the robber cash, which he put in his pants pocket and ran out of the bank.

When the man tried to drive out of the bank parking lot, a Metro Police officer pulled up behind him. The man sped away, with the officer in pursuit. After a brief chase, the man was arrested. Officers found a .22-caliber revolver in the cab of his beige pickup that they believe was used in the robberies.
