Murder suspect caught

A 24-year-old man wanted in the murder of an 11-year-old girl in California is in Clark County Detention Center after being arrested at a downtown hotel.

Royal Demetrius "Michi" Wilcox, 24, was taken into custody at the El Cid Hotel, 233 S. Sixth St., about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday by Metro Police and FBI agents.

Wilcox's arrest was based on a federal warrant charging him with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution after the San Bernardino County Municipal Court had issued a warrant for his arrest in the murder of Dinal Maria Green, 11, of Fontana.

San Bernardino authorities allege Wilcox killed Green with a round from an SKS assault rifle that was intended for the girl's brother.

Wilcox was with three people on Jan. 24 about 1 a.m. when he went to the apartment where Green lived and fired several rounds through the door and walls, an FBI spokeswoman said. One bullet struck the 11-year-old in the head, killing her, said Bobby Siller, FBI special agent in charge of the Las Vegas office.

Investigators later determined that the gunfire was retaliation for an argument that Green's brother had with Wilcox and the others, Siller said.

The law enforcement team that made Wednesday's arrest did not disclose how they were tipped off to Wilcox's location.
