Daughter’s sanity factor in guilty plea

A 35-year-old woman with a history of mental illness has agreed to a plea bargain in the stabbing death of her father, a retired Las Vegas doctor.

Rebecca Frazier waived her preliminary hearing on first-degree murder charges Thursday in Justice of the Peace Nancy Oesterle's courtroom as the first step in pleading guilty to second-degree murder by reason of mental illness.

A formal plea is set for April 18 before District Judge Sally Loehrer.

Frazier was released from the state mental hospital on West Charleston Boulevard just two weeks before her father, 69-year-old Dean Frazier, was stabbed more than 40 times with an ice pick.

The woman's history of mental illness goes back 10 years.

After the stabbing, the daughter called a relative who picked her up outside the victim's 6324 Alta Drive home, near Torrey Pines Drive.

Police said there were no signs the man fought back as he was being attacked.
