Mass killing of pigeons is a disgrace to our city

They are lying dead all over Las Vegas. The streets are littered with dead pigeons. When poisoned, they hallucinate to the point they bang into cars and buildings until they keel over in somebody's yard.

This happened to me yesterday. A beautiful, small pigeon fell before me, unable to fly as it was quivering and convulsing, blind with pain. I held it in my arms until it died. It was one of the worst things I have ever beheld in my life. Blood was in its beak!

Apartment managers and other businessmen are responsible for this genocide!

Point in question? Why did this all start just before the Fremont Street Experience? Why did the rule come out that pigeons could not be fed within a five-block radius of downtown?

I spoke to Tom Smigel last fall about this pigeon situation, since he is area manager for the state Division of Agriculture, and he seemed to think I was making too much of this deplorable situation.

Killing the pigeons is cruel and unnecessary. God knows how often we see them cleaning up what our citizens throw around the streets of this city.

The pigeon is of the dove family and was the first bird sent from Noah to find land.

What is next in Las Vegas? Great town, huh?
