Lake Las Vegas to host Three-Tour Challenge

A spokeswoman for Lake Las Vegas confirmed that the resort's Jack Nicklaus-designed course will play host to the Wendy's Three-Tour Challenge in November.

The Three-Tour Challenge is a made-for-TV event that features three-player teams from the PGA Tour, Senior PGA Tour and LPGA Tour in an 18-hole tournament. Proceeds from the charity event benefit the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

Lake Las Vegas officials signed a three-year agreement with Jack Nicklaus Productions, which produces the Three-Tour-Challenge for TV, to replace Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio as the host of the tournament.

"I can't begin to tell you how excited we are, not only to be associated with the Wendy's organization, but the Nicklaus organization as well," said Sherri O'Boyle, director of marketing for Lake Las Vegas. "It's a wonderful tournament for Henderson and Las Vegas to have. The national exposure is certainly an added benefit -- a wonderful added benefit -- for Lake Las Vegas."

Lake Las Vegas is a $3.8 billion residential/resort master-planned community under construction in Henderson, on the west edge of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Nicklaus already has designed one course on the development's South Shore, and a second course is under construction on the North Shore.

The Wendy's Three-Tour Challenge will be held Nov. 26 and taped for airing in December to a national television audience. O'Boyle said that because of the design of the course, galleries may have to be limited for the tournament.

"We're still working on all the logistics," O'Boyle said. "That's going to be an area that we are going to look at -- to try to have galleries. It may have to be limited access or it might be an invited-guest situation."

The Wendy's Three-Tour Challenge was first played in 1992 and the LPGA Tour won its only Three-Tour title with a one-shot victory over the Senior PGA Tour. The Seniors won the event in 1993 and 1995 and the PGA Tour captured its only title in 1994.

Last year, the Senior team of Raymond Floyd, Hale Irwin and Jack Nicklaus won the title with a 5-under-par 211 and beat the PGA Tour's Peter Jacobsen, Lee Janzen and John Daly by four shots. The LPGA team of Kelly Robbins, Dottie Mochrie and Laura Davies was third at 3-over-par 219.
