Metro Police were searching today for a man accused of shooting an alleged rival gang member in the back.
The victim was listed in serious but stable condition today at University Medical Center.
Police were called to an apartment complex at 2621 Searles Ave., near Washington Avenue and Mojave Road, after neighbors reported hearing gunshots about 11:05 p.m. Monday.
A crowd made it difficult for an ambulance to get to the victim, and witnesses told police that his friends wanted to take him to the hospital in their yellow Oldsmobile Delta 88.
As a Mercy ambulance arrived, a Delta 88 left the scene, but patrol cars, with help from a police helicopter, surrounded it near the housing complex.
The four occupants were ordered out of the car and onto the ground by officers, their guns drawn. As police attempted to handcuff the individuals, who were yelling obscenities, one of the men got to his feet, his hands cuffed.
The man tried to run, but officers caught him and threw him onto the back of a car.
The four were placed in separate patrol cars for questioning, but police did not say whether any of them were suspects in the shooting.
