Vice stings apprehend more johns

The Metro Police vice section continues to reel in violators of the county's prostitution law through its ongoing undercover stings on city streets.

Eighteen people were caught soliciting prostitutes in two reverse stings held March 26 and April 15.

The stings are conducted using female undercover detectives, who stroll area streets. Anyone who approaches the women and negotiates a deal for sex is arrested and charged with soliciting prostitution, which is illegal in Clark County.

Dotting the list of arrestees from the two most recent stings are an insurance consultant, a dealer at a local casino, a teacher, an accountant and a taxi driver, said Lt. Carlos Cordeiro of Metro's vice section.

The men range in age from 19 to 59, and include tourists from San Clemente, Calif.; Yonkers, N.Y.; Richland, Texas; and Pinon, Ariz. Two local men were caught in possession of cocaine.

Eleven reverse prostitution stings have been conducted since the year began, resulting in 134 arrests. The names of all people arrested for soliciting prostitution are available to the public at Metro's plaza desk and all substations.
