Speedway Park will remain part of local race scene

Officials of the under construction Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Thursday indicated Las Vegas Speedway Park will figure in their plans, even after the new track is open.

Speedway Park leaseholders David Juberg and Craig Graham negotiated a buyout of the final 11 years on their contract on Tuesday. They'll continue to manage LVSP, which flanks the new 107,000-seat superspeedway, through the end of 1996.

"We are extremely happy that Las Vegas Speedway Park will become part of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway motor sports entertainment complex," said Motor Speedway general manager Ray Wilkings in a statement.

"We look forward to working with David and Craig in transferring the high-profile events they have presented at Las Vegas Speedway Park to Las Vegas Motor Speedway."

Motor Speedway officials said Speedway Park's NASCAR Winston Racing Series stock car program would not be jeopardized by the lease transfer.
