TACOMA, Wash. -- Tacoma scored an unearned run in the sixth inning to take a 2-0 lead Sunday and the Rainiers held on for a 2-1 victory over the slumping Las Vegas Stars.
The Stars have lost seven of their past eight and dropped to 4-11. Tacoma, which has won five of the eight meetings with Las Vegas this season, improved to 11-5.
Tacoma scored what proved to be the game-winning run with the help of a fielding error by Stars third baseman Chad Tredaway and wild pitch by starting pitcher Russ Swan (0-1).
Darren Bragg opened the inning with a single and took second on a wild pitch. Arquimedez Pozo hit a grounder to third that Tredaway misplayed for an error, allowing Bragg to take third. Greg Pirkl then grounded into a double play, allowing Bragg to score.
The Rainiers had taken a 1-0 lead in the third on a solo home run by catcher Chris Widger.
The Stars scored their lone run in the eighth as Homer Bush singled, took second on a balk by reliever Greg McCarthy, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored when Tacoma third baseman Pozo bobbled a ball grounder by Riccardo Ingram for an error.
