Fallon to renovate courthouse

Commissioners hired ArcForm Group Architects & Planners of Reno to study the building's needs, and ArcForm found plenty.

Items on its list include uneven floors, indicating settlement; mortar between the rocks of the foundation walls that has turned to sand; water seeping through the foundation walls into the crawl space, and inadequate ventilation and proper wood clearance from the ground.

To mitigate the problems, ArcForm recommended raising the building to improve ventilation and to allow installation of a new foundation to support the structure built in 1903.

The cost of raising and lowering the two-story building is estimated at $30,000 while the cost of the foundation and new landscaping would be more than $64,000.
