Letters: Parents need to assert control over teenage girls

Teen pregnancy is a big problem for teen parents and for the American government. Parents are having a hard time taking care of their teenage daughters and their little babies. The American government is spending lots of money on welfare to support them.

I don't understand why teens want to get pregnant when they are not in a condition to take care of themselves. How can they care for the new born baby if they want to go to school?

They have to leave the baby either with their parents or at friends' house or in day care. It costs money to care for their baby and when they don't have it, finally either their parents have to pay or they will go on welfare. Then the government has to pay for their food, clothing, etc.

I read the newspaper and watch TV talk shows and I am surprised when girls 13-17 years old are involved in sexual activities and are getting pregnant. When they were asked why do you want to get pregnant and they say, "my boyfriend loves me." But they don't know the meaning of love. Actually they do not love, but they are attracted to each other.

Why do the parents give them too much freedom so they can get involved in such things? There are so many things parents can do to control their kids. All the parents should take control for the benefit of their teen kids and for their future.
