May 11 concert features Chinese music

The ensemble consists of five Chicago-based instrumentalists who keep ancient Chinese compositions alive for contemporary listeners. Their repertoire includes music from the Tang dynasty to the 20th century played on si (Silk) and zhu (bamboo) instruments.

Director Shen Sin-yan is an authority on Chinese music and a virtuoso artist on the erhu, the python-skin vertical fiddle. The program includes "Moon Over the Mountain Pass," "Moon Crescent Before Dawn," "Autumn Moon Over the Lake" and "The Grand Overture."

The program is funded, in part, by a grant from the Nevada State Council on the Arts.

Tickets are $10, $8 for students, seniors and the disabled. For information, call 229-6383.
