LV Teen Held in Phoenix Youth’s Probable Death

Jeremy Bach was taken into custody Thursday in Las Vegas, where he had been living with his mother since January, police and Maricopa County Attorney Richard Romley said.

Bach was wanted in the Nov. 10 disappearance of Brad Hansen, 13, first thought to be a runaway but now said to have been slain, though his body hasn't been found.

Romley said Hansen's blood was found on a curbside garbage container Jan. 9 "and it's suspected that his remains may be in a landfill."

Authorities said they think Hansen was shot to death at Bach's house, where he had been living with his father from September until early this year.

Police said they also have seized two handguns, samples of bloodstained grout from the Bach kitchen, and a kitchen chair with blood on the legs and seat.

Bach initially told police that Hansen grabbed a .357-caliber Magnum pistol stashed in the couch and fired it, according to court documents. He said Hansen then left on his bicycle, which has not been found.

"Without a body present it makes the case more difficult," Romley said, "but it is still legally permissible to bring charges without that body as long as we can prove all the elements of the crime. We do believe we have evidence to prove this case beyond a reasonable doubt."

Authorities said they believe Hansen was shot as a result of an argument over Jenifer Dunn, 13, who said she had been Bach's girlfriend but had begun dating Hansen.

"I think ... it was an accident, then Jeremy panicked," she said Thursday, describing Bach as "really sweet" with a "gentle heart."

A memorial service is to be held Saturday for Hansen.
