Ruehl, a contractor and builder, bought the houseboat from Torsten Reineck in June, reports WSVN-TV today.
Ruehl, who left Miami for Germany on Thursday, said he told the FBI during questioning that he didn't know Cunanan. He said he first learned that Cunanan was at the houseboat from watching television.
"They asked me if I was really the owner of the houseboat, when I bought it and if I had something to do with Cunanan," Ruehl said.
Ruehl does business with Reineck in Germany and Miami, where they run a condominium business listed at the houseboat address.
Ruehl said he was not a partner in the gay spa opened by Reineck, who is sought in Europe on charges of fraud and tax evasion. Ironically, when Reineck opened the spa ten months ago he used the alias "Torsten Ruehl."
Ruehl said he didn't know why Reineck used his name.
