Military briefs

Students were taught operations security systems, tactics, and weapons use, handling and safety. Training included instruction in sentry duty, challenging, search procedures, general police duties, guardmount, application of force, legal considerations, communications and CPR. Procedures and tactics in the threat spectrum of terrorism and antiterrorism, resources protection, response force operations, and aerospace systems security were instructed.

Theel is a 1993 graduate of Rancho High School.

* -- Army Reserve Pvt. Michael S. O'Mahar has graduated from the motor transport operator course at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.

During the course, students received training in the operation and maintenance of light and heavy military vehicles. Instructions were given in transportation of personnel, equipment, and supplies.

O'Mahar is a 1995 graduate of Rancho High School.

* -- Army Pvt. Jennie L.A. Caval has arrived for duty at Kaiserslautern, Germany. Caval, a petroleum supply specialist, is a 1996 graduate of Durango High School, Las Vegas.

* -- Air Force Airman 1st Class Byron L. Giles has graduated from the communications-computer systems operations apprentice course at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Miss.

Students were taught how to operate and maintain electronic data processing equipment, including software, tape and disk management, and other related tasks.

Giles is a 1992 graduate of Clark High School.

* -- Army Chief Warrant Officer Charles J. Barrow has retired from the U.S. Army after more than 21 years of military service.

In addition, Barrow was decorated with the Meritorious Service Medal at the retirement ceremony. The medal was awarded for outstanding non-combat meritorious achievement in service to the United States.

Prior to retiring, Barrow was a direct support maintenance technician at Fort Polk, Leesville, La.
