Limbaugh inducted into NAB Hall of Fame

Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh showed another side to his trademark bombastic persona on Tuesday -- humility.

Limbaugh, host of "The Rush Limbaugh Show," syndicated on more than 600 radio stations, was inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame during a lunch at the NAB's Las Vegas convention.

The trimmed-down Limbaugh, noted for his spirited blasts at liberal politicians, received the industry's highest honor a day after Bob Keeshan, creator of the "Captain Kangaroo" children's television program, was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his work in TV.

Limbaugh began hosting his nationally syndicated show in 1988. It was then carried on 56 stations. Now the show reaches 20 million people a week and is the highest-rated national radio talk show in America, the NAB said, citing information from Talkers magazine.

Limbaugh also hosts "The Rush Limbaugh Morning Update," a 90-second daily commentary.

Prior to Limbaugh receiving a plaque commemorating his induction, luncheon attendees saw a tribute video narrated by Jack Buck, radio voice of the St. Louis Cardinals. Limbaugh grew up in Missouri and at one time had an executive position with the Kansas City Royals baseball team.

Limbaugh attributed his success to perseverance and hard work, but he also thanked people who inspired and motivated him as well as the affiliates who stood by the concept of airing a talk show without guests.
