Warnings of rapist issued

Women in the southeast area of the valley are being warned by Metro Police that a serial rapist and robber is on the prowl.

Police believe the same masked man has entered the apartments of four different women, where he sexually assaulted them after threatening their lives.

The attacks occurred Jan. 16, Oct. 15, Oct. 11 and one in 1996 between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m., Sgt. Clint Robison said. One occurred off of Paradise Road and three others occurred two miles away in the vicinity of Pecos and Flamingo roads.

The suspect, who wears a ski mask and leather gloves, entered three ground-floor apartments through windows and one through a second-floor balcony door, Robison said. He enters the apartments, threatens them, then sexually assaults and robs them before leaving out the apartment doors, he said.

Nabbing the suspect is the unit's top priority, Robison said. In the meantime, he said, women need to be aware.
