William Arnell

William Arnell, 76, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born April 8, 1925, in Philadelphia. A resident for seven years, he was a Navy machinist and World War II Coast Guard veteran.

He is survived by two daughters, Donna Kruse of Ridgecrest, Calif., and Pamela Martin of Union, Ore.; two sons, Christopher of Laughlin and William Arnell Jr., of Ridgecrest; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Verna L. Beatty

Verna L. Beatty, 83, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 16, 1917, in Minnesota. A resident for 29 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Leland; two sons, James Harrison of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Daniel Harrison of Palo Alto, Calif.; two stepsons, David Beatty and Lee Beatty, both of Las Vegas; one sister; two brothers; two grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday in Calvary Lutheran Church, 800 N. Bruce St., Las Vegas, NV 89101. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

Barbara Beck

Barbara Beck, 57, of Henderson died July 6 in Marietta, Ga. She was born Dec. 14, 1943, Cincinnati. A resident for 12 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, William; one son, Samuel Beck, and one daughter, Julie Beck, both of Henderson; one brother, Arthur John Stagnaro Jr. of Cincinnati; and one sister, Dorothy Grogan of Marietta.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Peter's Catholic Church, 204 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Burial will be in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Donald E. Birch

Donald E. Birch, 62, of Henderson died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 9, 1938, in New York. A resident for 18 years, he was a security shift supervisor for 16 years at the Las Vegas Convention Center and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; one son, Joseph of San Diego; one daughter, Patricia Turner of Las Vegas; two stepsons, Joseph Cikity of Las Vegas and Eric Cikity of Utah; his mother, Rose Birch, one sister, Susan Roman, and one brother, Jerry Birch, all of New York; and eight grandchildren.

Emily T. Bova

Emily T. Bova, 89, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born March 28, 1912, in Harrison, N.Y. A resident for 21 years, she was a retired housekeeper.

She is survived by one sister, Philomena DiRuzzio of Hopewell Junction, N.Y.

Visitation is scheduled noon-4 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be noon Wednesday in Palm Chapel, Eastern. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Leland 'Lee' Bowman

Leland "Lee" Bowman, 71, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 8, 1930, in Anaconda, Mont. A resident for four years, he was a telephone company foreman and a Korean War Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; three sons, David Bowman of Spokane, Wash., and Mike Bowman and Matt Bowman, both of Anchorage, Alaska; one brother, Bill Bowman of Columbus, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Sara E. Callas

Sara E. Callas, 54, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local health care center. She was born Oct. 10, 1946, in California. A resident for 33 years, she was a retired cosmetologist.

She is survived by one daughter, Nicoli Callas, and one son, Larry Callas, both of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.

Irene Bernice Farthing

Irene Bernice Farthing, 81, of Henderson died Saturday in a local care center. She was born Feb. 7, 1920, in El Dorado, Kan. A resident for 52 years, she was a homemaker and the former owner-operator of Farthing Baker in Las Vegas from 1953-1971.

She is survived by one son, Larry E. Farthing of Sparks; one sister, Allene Eckles of Kingman, Ariz.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.

Duncan M. Gordon

Duncan M. Gordon, 78, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born April 17, 1923, in Grandin, N.D. A resident for 41 years, he was a retired carpenter, a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the Carpenters Union for 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanora Ann; one son, Duncan Bruce Gordon, and one daughter, Brenda Gay Best, both of Phoenix; two stepsons, Sam Moccero of Phoenix and Dick Moccero of Janesville, Wis.; one sister, Doris Grbouaz of San Clemente, Calif.; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City.

Edward E. Gray, 75, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 24, 1925, in Robinsonville, N.C. A resident for 13 years, he was a retired government machine operator, a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the Fleet Reserve.

He is survived by his wife, Betty C.; two daughters, Ann Cole of Jacksonville, N.C., and Joy Lewis of Fayetteville, N.C.; one son, Kenneth E. Cummings Jr. of Midlothian, Va.; one sister, Sheila Taylor of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Avis E. Kemper

Avis E. Kemper, 82, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. She was born July 5, 1919, in Beaver Crossing, Neb. A resident for 50 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Dennis Kemper of Las Vegas and Rocky Lee Kemper of Indian Springs; and one sister, Eileen Anderson of Milford, Neb.

She is survived by her husband, Jake King of New York City; two daughters, Tracy Alston and Terry L. King, both of Las Vegas; one son, Michael King of New York City; two brothers, Dannie Short of New York City and Ali Hasan of Florida; one sister, Yvonne Green of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.

He is survived by his parents, Edward and Bette Krizewicz, and two brothers, Larry Krizewicz and David Krizewicz, all of Las Vegas.

Robert L. Larkin, 58, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 22, 1942, in Detroit. A resident for 20 years, he was an appliance repair technician.

He is survived by one daughter, Dawn M. Howland of Las Vegas; two sons, Robert D. Larkin of Boise, Idaho, and Ryan A. Larkin of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and five grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Horace; one son, Henry Maines of Montreal; three sisters, Amy Dardowski of Pennsylvania and Wanda Turner and Phyllis Hicklin, both of Florida; one brother, Victor Bollinger of Canada; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Patricia A. Malina, 66, of North Las Vegas died Saturday in North Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 13, 1934, in Philadelphia. A resident for one year, she was a retired bank clerk.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph; two daughters, Marlene Wagner of Las Vegas and Jennifer Buchanan of Rantoul, Ill.; one son, Chip Springs of Orangevale, Calif.; her mother, Mary Riley, and one sister, Cynthia Weiser, both of Philadelphia; and four grandchildren.

Vincent "Jimmy" Maltese, 64, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born July 17, 1936, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 20 years, he provided front-door services at a hotel-casino prior to his retirement and a retired Culinary Union shop steward and hotel employee.

He is survived by his wife, Roxanne; two sons, Peter Maltese of Howard Beach, N.Y., and Vincent (Maltese) Izzolo of Las Vegas; one daughter, Linda Couch of Long Beach, N.Y.; one sister, Nina Kistner of Bethpage, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; two sisters, Virginia Matthews of Avon, Ill., and Ruth Miller of Mason City, Ill.; and three brothers, Harold Rogers of Griffith, Ind., Edger Rogers of Hammond, Ind., and Davis Rogers of Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, Melva; one daughter, Brenda Higgins of Las Vegas; two sons, Kenneth Higgins of Las Vegas and Bruce Walthour of Aurora, Colo.; one brother, Willard Dale Walthour of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and five grandchildren.
