UNLV women remain perfect with 5-2 win

The UNLV women's soccer team remained unbeaten Wednesday with a 5-2 victory against Southern Utah at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

Four players scored for the Rebels (3-0).

Michelle Cowles got things started off a Nickie Olson assist in the fifth minute to open the scoring. The second goal wasn't scored until about 50 minutes later in the 55th minute by Erin Egertson off Annii Magliulo's short crossing pass.

Magliulo scored her third goal of the season off another assist by Olson to give UNLV a 3-0 lead in the 65th minute.

Southern Utah's Chaysie Call scored on a 35-yard shot that was deflected in by a defender in the 70th minute to give the Thunderbirds their first goal of the season.

Three goals were scored in the last 5:33 of play. UNLV's Lori Sakai scored off a Hayley Jones throw-in, Southern Utah responded with a Katie Baugh (Call assisted) goal in the 86th minute and Egertson closed out the scoring with her second goal of the night with 27 seconds left to play off of an assist by Erica Storch.

Blue-Gray rises again

The Blue-Gray All-Star Football Classic will return this Christmas Day after a one-year hiatus, but in a new venue, Movie Gallery Stadium on the Troy State University campus. The game, which features college seniors, was not played last year because organizers could not line up a corporate sponsor.

Texas asks for Dotson

Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Wednesday signed a warrant seeking the extradition of former Baylor basketball player Carlton Dotson from Maryland. Dotson is accused of murder in the death of Patrick Dennehy, his former teammate.

Bruins sign Potvin

Goaltender Felix Potvin agreed to a contract with the Boston Bruins. He played 42 games for the Los Angeles Kings last season with a 17-20-3 record.

Pacers hire Carlisle

Rick Carlisle was hired as the Indiana Pacers' new coach, three years after the former assistant was bypassed in favor of Isiah Thomas.
