Family services gets new boss

CARSON CITY -- A Nebraska woman today was named administrator of the state Division of Child and Family Services that encompasses child welfare programs, juvenile detention centers and youth parole.

Gov. Kenny Guinn said Jone M. Bosworth, who has been a consultant in Nebraska to improve child welfare and juvenile services, will take over the $90,513-a-year job Oct. 1, succeeding Edward Cotton, who resigned in July. Cotton, who held the post for two years, took a similar job in New Jersey.

Bosworth, former deputy director of the Nebraska Health and Human Services Department, will be facing a number of challenges:

Bosworth will manage a division that has 950 employees, a budget this year of $158 million and 4,300 youths in child welfare programs.

In announcing the appointment, Guinn said, "Ms. Bosworth will bring tremendous knowledge with her from her work in Nebraska's children's services. Her experience in integrating services for families will be valuable here in Nevada."

Bosworth received a law degree in 1997 from the University of Nebraska College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in 1986 from the University of Nebraska.

She has been a social case manager, abuse/neglect investigator, coordinator for battered women's shelters and a reviewer in the state of Kansas for Federal Child and Family Services Review.

She has taught in Japan and worked in Mexico, Kenya and Saudi Arabia as a former service officer/consultant.
