Christoff: Interview in probe set

Peter "Chris" Christoff, the defeated Las Vegas City Council candidate who was among those making allegations of campaign finance violations against Councilwoman Janet Moncrief, said state investigators were to interview him today in the case.

Christoff and others said Moncrief paid for an attack flier but did not report the expense on campaign finance forms.

Christoff, who lost in the primary but then worked on Moncrief's campaign in the general election, has said she paid for fliers attacking her opponent, incumbent Michael McDonald. He said Monday that he will present a file full of proof supporting his allegations.

"This is all the evidence, all the stuff they requested," Christoff said.

He said the material includes fliers and receipts.

"I've had it ready for a month," he said.

Steve George, spokesman for the Nevada secretary of state's office, said he could not speak about ongoing investigations. He said there was no specific time frame for the completion of the investigation.

"(Investigators) are working diligently to come to a conclusion," George said. When that happens, the report goes to the secretary of state's office, he said, where a decision is made on whether to prosecute.

Moncrief said Monday that she has not heard from investigators. She said she previously wrote them a letter denying any involvement with the fliers.
