Robert A. Akins

Robert A. Akins, 75, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born May 19, 1928, in Alliance, Ohio. A retired vice president of a security gate company, he was a World War II Navy veteran and a lifetime member of Elks Lodge 467 in Alliance.

He is survived by two sons, Mark Akins of Las Vegas and Clint Akins of Louisville, Texas; one daughter, Kim Van Derkar of Alliance; three sisters, Virginia Montague and Mary Beth Schultz, both of Alliance, and Dorothy Davies of San Jose, Calif.; two brothers, Dale Akins of Alliance and Willis Akins of Georgia; and seven grandchildren.

Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.

David Roderick Ashton

David Roderick Ashton, 69, of North Las Vegas died Sept. 19, in North Las Vegas. He was born July 27, 1934, in Spokane, Wash. A resident for 43 years, he was a taxi driver.

He is survived by one brother, Phillip E. Ashton of Newberg, Ore.

Services are private. Nevada Funeral Service, 2983 Fremont St., handled arrangements.

Mildred Bass

Mildred Bass, 94, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 20, 1909, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for eight years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Burton Bass of Las Vegas; one daughter, Roslyn Rabinowitz of Englishtown, N.J.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday in King David Memorial Chapel and Cemetery, 2697 Eldorado Lane.

Evelyn Broussard

Evelyn Broussard, 82, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 20, 1921, in Grand Coteau, La. A resident for eight years, she was a retired Goldwaters department store sales clerk.

She is survived by three daughters, Faye Gregory of Las Vegas, Bunny E. Anderson of Athens, Texas, and Polly Broussard of Prescott, Ariz.; one son, Dennis Broussard of Bloomington, Ind.; two sisters, Laura Miller of Opelousas, La., and Doris Sustman of Clearwater, Fla.; one brother, Russell Quebedeaux of Opelousas; and four grandchildren.

Services will be in Phoenix. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., handled arrangements.

Jean B. Buck

Jean B. Buck, 59, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local care center. She was born Sept. 21, 1944, in California. A resident for 35 years, she was a delivery driver for an auto parts company.

She is survived by one son, Derrek Buck; one daughter, Katherine Buck; one brother, Arthur T. Colombo; one sister, Carole Colomba; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Saturday at 1382 Ringe Lane. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Sharon Y. Cooper

Sharon Y. Cooper, 39, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Jan. 17, 1964, in Las Vegas. A resident for 39 years, she was a cashier at McDonald's.

She is survived by one son, Maurice Cooper; two daughters, Shanell Cooper and Jacquelyn Joyce Cooper; her mother, Flora Dean Cooper; three brothers, Roy Cooper, Archie Cooper and Tony Cooper; and one sister, Pamela Cooper.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Lucille Dandy

Lucille Dandy, 74, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born March 14, 1929, in Portland, Ore. A resident for 50 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by six daughters, Anita Stewart of Florida, Karen Mason, Lou Ellyn Roberts-Green, Jane Steele and Nancy Estabrook, all of Las Vegas, and Christine Bennett of West Virginia; one son, Charles Vincent Dandy Jr.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

Maria Socorro Duran

Maria Socorro Duran, 78, of North Las Vegas died Tuesday in North Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 27, 1924, in El Salvador. A resident for 23 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Rafael Duran and Antonio Duran, both of Reno; four daughters, Freda Arroyo of North Las Vegas, Angeles Duran and Maribel Duran, both of El Salvador, and Mercedes Duran of Los Angeles; one sister, Juana Duran of El Salvador; 20 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. today at Garden Memorial Funeral Home, 3600 W. Vegas Drive. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the LDS El Rancho Ward. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Jessye Firriolo

Jessye Firriolo, 78, of Las Vegas died Sept. 12, in Las Vegas. A postal worker, he was born May 13, 1925, in South Carolina.

He is survived by one brother, James Thompson of Garysburg, N.C.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Woodlawn Cemetery. Hites Funeral Home, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson is handling arrangements.

Aden William Fisher

Aden William Fisher, 24 days, of North Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local care center. He was born Aug. 31, 2003, in Las Vegas.

He is survived by his mother, Daphne Fay Fisher.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Antonio Garcia

Antonio Garcia, 47, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. A chef, he was born April 14, 1956, in Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen Marquez (DeCostillo); two sons, Andres Marquez and Victor Marquez, and five daughters, Araceli Marquez, Angelica Marquez, Marisela Marquez, Mayra Marquez and Maria Marquez, all of Nevada.

Visitation is scheduled 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday in Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Monday in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Charles Gerling

Charles Gerling, 82, of Meadview, Ariz., died Thursday in a local hospital. He was born March 22, 1921, in Bismarck, N.D. A former Las Vegas resident for 14 years, he was a retired aeronautics planner, a World War II Navy veteran, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Annie; two daughters, Carole Lindner of Fallbrook, Calif., and Rochelle Printup of Las Vegas; one son, Michael Gerling Sr. of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.

Frans T. Hagenbeek

Frans T. Hagenbeek, 86, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 9, 1917, in Indonesia. A resident for 23 years, he was an electrician.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; two sons, William Hagenbeek and Fred Hagenbeek; and two grandchildren.

Herbert W. Henry

Herbert W. Henry, 60, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 5, 1942, in Los Angeles. A resident for 44 years, he was a casino slot technician, a Korean War Army veteran, past master of Silver Cord Masonic Lodge 51 and a member of the Southern Nevada Off-Road Enthusiasts.

He is survived by two daughters, Donna K. Bass of Pensacola, Fla., and Debra S. Ritchie of Tucson; one son, Clifford J. Henry of Amargosa Valley; his father, Walter J. Henry, and one sister, Lillie J. Alcorn, both of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.

Robert Jay Kendall

Robert Jay Kendall, 44, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died Aug. 11. He was born Aug. 11, 1959, in Columbus, Ohio. A former Las Vegas resident, he was a pharmacy technician, a Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force veteran, a 1977 Clark High School graduate, a 1982 UNLV graduate, a commercial, multi-engine and instrument pilot and a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi.

He is survived by his parents, Virginia L. and Dr. William R. Kendall of Humble, Texas; one sister, Jaye Ellen Palm-Leis of Half Moon Bay, Calif.; and two brothers, William R. Kendall Jr. of Reno and Tracy J. Kendall of Scottsdale.

Kathryn F. Kifer

Kathryn F. Kifer, 90, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 19, 1912, in Missouri. A resident for 30 years, she was a retired hotel waitress and a member of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by one son, Larry Kifer of Las Vegas; one sister, June Shupe of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church, 3050 Alta Drive.

Eusebio Lozano, 78, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 16, 1924, in Guadalajara, Mexico. A resident for 23 years, he was a retired musician, a Korean War Army veteran and a lifetime member of Musicians Local 47.

He is survived by two sons, Michael Eusebio Lozano of Atlanta and Lorenzo Lee Lozano of Las Vegas; one daughter, Dawn Maria De Jesus Lozano of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive. Graveside services will be 1:20 p.m. Monday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Pilar Minguez Lum

Pilar Minguez Lum, 72, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born Jan. 2, 1931, in Spain. A resident for 38 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, James; two sons, George Lum of San Luis Obisbo, Calif., and John Lum of Henderson; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. today in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Bunkers Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road.

Ava Jewel Ousley

Ava Jewel Ousley, 85, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born May 26, 1918, in Ansen, Texas. A resident for 18 years, she was a business owner.

She is survived by one son, D. Hal Ousley, and one daughter, Jan Cook, both of Las Vegas; and two grandsons.

Vivian Polter, 88, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospice. A retired teacher and past sisterhood president of Temple Oheb Solom in Pennsylvania, she was born Jan. 15, 1915, in Philadelphia.

She is survived by one daughter, Glynn Polter of Henderson.

Leland Charles Rexford, 66, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospice. He was born May 11, 1937, in Plattsburgh, N.Y. A resident for 37 years, he was a retired Air Force master sergeant and Vietnam War veteran, a volunteer Cal-Nev-Ari firefighter and EMT and instructor for rural Clark County volunteer fire departments.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy J.; and one brother, Michael Rexford of Arlington, Wash.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Graveside services will be noon Monday at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; one daughter, Jessica Carroll of Las Vegas; and one sister, Penny Russell of California.

Dolores Fay Sauer

Dolores Fay Sauer, 69, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. She was born Jan. 27, 1934, in Pennsylvania. A resident for 26 years, she was a medical secretary.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Witcher of Atlanta and Rhonda Inness of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one son, Michael Sauer of Las Vegas; two sisters, Yvonne Hendricks of Florida and Gerry Banzhof of Lancaster, Pa.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Faitasia S. Utu

Faitasia S. Utu, 68, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born July 25, 1935, in Samoa. A resident for 32 years, he was a retired Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Kaye; one daughter, Marina Shelton of Las Vegas; one sister, Lepeti Magauli of Samoa; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Saturday with services following at Garden Memorial Funeral Home, 3600 W. Vegas Drive. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Koz J. Webb

Koz J. Webb, 92, of St. George, Utah, died Thursday in St. George. He was born Sept. 1, 1911, in Monroe, Utah. A former Las Vegas resident for many years, he was a high scaler on the construction of Hoover Dam, worked at the Nevada Test Site during the above-ground atomic bomb tests, trained and owned thoroughbred racehorses and ended his career as manager of the Showboat hotel's keno department.

He was preceded in death by one son, Roy in 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Beth; one daughter, Gwen Ferrell; three sons, Udell Webb, Kelly Webb and Gary Webb; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 9:30-10:45 a.m. with services following at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. George LDS 16th Ward chapel, 550 E. 700 S. Burial will be 4 p.m. Saturday in Monroe City Cemetery, Monroe, Utah. Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah 84770, is handling arrangements.
