Nearly three weeks after Coronado High School sophomore Olivia Brandise Hyten was killed, the teenager driving the truck she rode in was charged in Family Court.
David Jensen, 16, was detained on two counts of reckless driving — one causing death and one causing substantial bodily harm — and one count of involuntary manslaughter.
Brandise Hyten was involved in a rollover crash the evening of Nov. 14. She was pronounced dead in the early morning hours of Nov. 15.
Police said speed appeared to be involved in the crash on Grand Hills Drive near Villa Barolo in the Seven Hills community. She was partially ejected, police said, and another vehicle was on the scene.
Jensen will return to Family Court on Monday to formally enter a plea. Jensen’s attorney William Terry declined comment.
Family Judge William Voy will also formally accept a plea from Michael Mosley, 16, who was arrested the night of the crash on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of a spring-loaded knife.
Mosley was driving a separate vehicle traveling behind Jensen’s vehicle at the time of the crash, Deputy District Attorney Mary Brown said during a Nov. 24 plea hearing. Formal charges were set to be filed against Mosley Dec. 15, after Brown had a chance to review the police department’s investigation results and determine if he was at fault, she said.
