See how Hillary won the Silver State
Bill and Hillary Clinton have big support in Hollywood’s celebrity circles.
But the Clinton campaign’s decision to have the New York senator give her victory speech Saturday at Planet Hollywood -- a request that was made of hotel management at 7:30 Friday night -- wasn’t related to casino partner Robert Earl’s thick Rolodex of Hollywood stars.
(Earl co-founded the restaurant chain of the same name with actor-investors including Bruce Willis and has signed appearance deals with athletes Pete Sampras, Sugar Ray Leonard and Roger Clemens.)
An initial call from a Clinton supporter for rooms led to a few booked rooms and eventually a de facto headquarters for Clinton’s campaign staff. (The Clintons stayed across the street at the Bellagio.)
After a campaign punctuated by appearances conspicuously far from casino floors, Hillary Clinton gave her speech on the casino’s second-floor mezzanine, a stone’s throw from banks of slot machines.
In fact, there weren’t many options for her to address a large crowd. The hotel’s ballrooms were booked with events this weekend, including the setup for next weekend’s Miss America pageant.
