Northwest valley house fire does $100,000 in damage

House fire

A fire burned through the attic of a house Sunday afternoon in the northwest Las Vegas Valley, causing an estimated $100,000 in damage.

Officials have ruled the fire at 8712 Grazing Hill Court, near Farm Road and U.S. 95, accidental while the investigation into the cause continues.

A couple at the home told firefighters they smelled smoke when they returned home but couldn't find the source, said Tim Szymanski, spokesman for Las Vegas Fire and Rescue. When firefighters arrived at about 2:30 p.m., the attic was heavily engulfed with fire.

Investigators believe the fire started inside one of the walls of the garage, Szymanski said.

Six adults live at the house but there were no reported injuries.
