City launches Web site with details on inmates

Finding information about inmates at the Las Vegas Detention Center, 3300 Stewart Ave., will become easier now that the city of Las Vegas has launched a new Web site.

The site, www.lasvegasnevada.gov/inmate, allows people to search for an inmate by name or their inmate identification number. Once the inmate’s page appears, visitors will find the inmate’s booking date, identification number and physical description, as well as links to information about visiting hours, legal visits and property releases.

The site also includes information about the inmate's convictions.

“When a loved one is in custody it can be a frustrating experience trying to obtain information and we’re hoping that this new service will be another alternative for the public to quickly and easily access inmate information,” city of Las Vegas detention and enforcement chief Karen Coyne said.

Public information officer Jace Radke said the information was always available to the public, but those seeking the information had to call or go to the center for it. The Web site makes the information more readily available, he said.

“We just try to find more functions and more ways to save folks time on the Web site so this was just one of the new ideas that came up,” Radke said.
