Court hears arguments in Harrah’s Laughlin motorcycle case

CARSON CITY – An attorney has asked the Nevada Supreme Court to order a trial to allow his seven clients to seek damages from Harrah’s Laughlin for injuries suffered during a battle between two motorcycle gangs in 2002.

E. Brent Bryson, representing the seven, said District Judge Susan Johnson was wrong in issuing a pre-trial summary judgment in favor of the hotel-casino.

But attorney James Olson, representing Harrah’s, said the "melee was not reasonably foreseeable." He said the issue had been decided twice – once in federal court and the other time in state court.

During the 2002 River Run, a fight broke out in the casino between Hells Angels and the Mongols that left three dead.

The seven who are suing Harrah’s were not members of either group.

Bryson said it was clearly foreseeable that the patrons of Harrah’s could be injured and his clients should have a chance to present the facts at trial.

Those appealing are Michael Bower, Robert Garcia, Noi Lewis, Kathy Fuller, Steven Fuller, Andrea Daniels and Dean Daniels.

The battle erupted inside Harrah's on April 27, 2002, and left two Hells Angels members dead and one Mongol dead.

The court took the arguments under submission.
