Man fatally shot during apartment robbery identified

Fatal shooting

A man who was shot to death late Saturday after a scuffle with gunmen who tried to rob a woman at gunpoint in her apartment has been identified.

The Clark County Coroner's Office said 37-year-old Karriem Shelby of Las Vegas died from several gunshot wounds and his death was a homicide.

Metro Police officers arrived at 11:19 p.m. Saturday to reports of shots fired at the El Parque apartments, 3355 Arville St., near West Desert Inn Road. Officers found a man dead inside an apartment from an apparent gunshot wound.

Investigators said two armed men allegedly forced their way into the apartment and demanded money at gunpoint from a woman who was alone in the apartment. The woman suffered minor injuries in the scuffle but wasn't shot, police said.

Authorities said the man, who also lived at the apartment, returned home and got into a fight with one of the robbers. One of the men shot him before leaving the apartment, police said.

Police are looking for two black men, one of whom is described as 6-feet tall with a medium build, with black hair styled in long dreadlocks past his shoulders. The second man was described as 5-foot-8-inches tall with a heavy build and short hair.

Both men were seen running south in the complex. No vehicle was observed.

Anyone with information about this event is asked to call the Metro Police Homicide Section at (702) 828-3521, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
