Obit: Andrea ‘Celina’ Roye

Sun coverage

Andrea “Celina” Roye, 18, of Henderson, died in August 2009 in Cache National Forest in Utah.

She was born to Janice and Dean Roye on July 17, 1991, in Las Vegas while they were residing at Nellis Air Force Base. After the family’s retirement from the military, they moved to Henderson, where Roye spent the past 15 years devoted to the study of animals and nature.

Roye volunteered for two years at a local pet store, familiarizing herself with various animals, both exotic and domestic. She attended Green Valley High School while privately founding an animal rescue operation and providing sanctuary for many furry, and some hairless, friends. Roye went by the alias “Nebula” when adopting out pets on her self-designed Web site, www.PKAdoptions.tk. She was enthusiastic about learning the behavior of wild animals and always tried to keep them true to their habitats.

Roye was a member of Girl Scouts at the Daisy level. She was a careful and intelligent child, fun loving yet somewhat shy, enjoying ceramic class, painting and art. She loved Disney movies and playing dress up; her favorite movies were “Winnie The Pooh,” “Spirit” and “Shilo.” In junior high, Roye showed an interest in becoming more outgoing and took private classes in gymnastics and ice skating.

She took her dog for many hikes to Mount Charleston and Red Rock Canyon. She loved the cool mountain air and snow, and took video of her dogs running in the snow on the mountain in Las Vegas and pictures of her ferrets leaping in the snow in Maine. She enjoyed taking pictures of animals and nature.

At a special remembrance in Tuscany, Italy, on an olive orchard farm in April 2006, Roye had a life-changing experience that brought her spirit to higher levels. After her trip to Italy, Roye surrounded herself more than ever before with love, laughter and music; listening to sounds of bird singing, the rain forest calls of nature, Native American tribal songs and the Beatles’ “All You Need is Love,” were some of her favorites. Roye also had a great love for horses and, at age 17, she finally got the opportunity to have professional riding lessons.

In addition to her mother and father, Roye is survived by two brothers, William Bender and Christopher Roye; her sister Amy and her husband Allen Bauer and their children Karrina and Kaileb; and many family members in the state of Maine. Roye will be remembered by many extended relatives and friends throughout the United States, Italy, Japan, Germany and beyond.

Although Roye had a special affinity for wolves, she wished to keep all her fellow creatures protected, so instead of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Roye’s name to Defenders of Wildlife or any animal rescue organization.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 19 at Central Christian Church, 1001 New Beginnings Drive, Henderson.
