Coroner identifies man killed in suspected DUI crash

Fatal collision

The Clark County Coroner’s Office has identified a 52-year-old man who was killed Sunday in a vehicle crash allegedly caused by a suspected drunken driver as Robert Childress Jr. of Las Vegas.

Metro Police said the crash occurred at 5:52 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Charleston Boulevard. Police said a 22-year-old man, identified as Jacques Norton, was driving his 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser eastbound on Charleston Boulevard at a high rate of speed when the Chrysler arrived at the intersection of Main Street and struck a 1980 Mercedes 300SD, driven by Childress.

Childress was turning left from Main Street onto Charleston Boulevard when the collision occurred, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene but a cause of death hasn’t been determined, the coroner’s office said.

Norton was arrested in connection with felony driving under the influence with death and booked into the Clark County Detention Center, where he is being held without bail.
