North Las Vegas plans back-to-school events for students

North Las Vegas officials announced Thursday the city will be offering several events to help kids get ready to go back to school.

At an Aug. 14 event, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., hosted by the College of Southern Nevada, children and their parents can pick up free school supplies for kindergarteners through 12th graders, and can take part in health services, such as haircuts, free immunizations, dental checks and eye exams. The event will take place at the college’s Cheyenne Campus, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave.

At the event, children younger than 18 can only get school supplies if they come with a guardian or parent. Officials said proof of age will be required.

The Nevada National Guard will host a back-to-school event Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Army National Guard, 6400 N. Range Road. The North Las Vegas Police Department will be available at the event, officials said.

More than 800 students are expected to attend the Salvation Army Back-to-School fair on Saturday, Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The North Las Vegas fire and police departments will be at the event. Students can pick up school supplies and backpacks. For more information, call 870-4430.
