Man identified in triple shooting at storage business

Triple shooting

The man who died in a triple shooting Friday at a business near the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Valley View Boulevard has been identified as 56-year-old Steven Becker, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.

The coroner ruled his death a suicide from a gunshot to the chest. Becker was from Las Vegas.

The coroner's office on Monday identified a woman who died in the shooting as 48-year-old Shannon Larkin. She died from a single gunshot to the head and her death was ruled a homicide.

Metro Police responded at 8:22 p.m. Friday to the shooting at Tiberti Mini Warehouses, 4870 S. Valley View, after receiving a 911 call in which a man reported he had shot a woman in the head. Police Lt. Lew Roberts said officers responded to a storage unit with an office and live-in space, then made contact with a man, identified today as Becker, armed with a handgun.

Police told Becker to put down the weapon. He placed the gun on a counter and ran to a back bedroom, then officers heard a shot, Roberts said.

Becker and Larkin were found dead, and a 49-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the head was taken to University Medical Center, authorities said.

CORRECTION: Steven Becker initially was identified as Steven Decker. The name has been corrected in the story. | (August 25, 2010)
