The Clark County Coroner’s Office has identified a 69-year-old man allegedly killed in his North Las Vegas apartment Monday as Roy Schutzler of North Las Vegas.

The coroner’s office said a cause of death hasn't been determined, but an autopsy showed evidence of strangulation, which prompted police to reclassify the case as a homicide investigation.

North Las Vegas Police responded at 6 a.m. Monday to the report of an unresponsive man in his apartment at 770 W. Lone Mountain Road. Officers were led to believe Schutzler's death was possibly medical-related, authorities said, but physical evidence led police to open a death investigation.

At about 8 p.m. Tuesday, detectives arrested 54-year-old Rosemary Vandecar and her son, 25-year-old Daniel Vandecar, in connection with the homicide. They were booked into the North Las Vegas Detention Center on one count of murder with a victim over age 60.

The Vandecars were live-in caregivers for Schutzler and weren't related to him, police said. Authorities haven't determined a motive in the case.
