FAA restricting Las Vegas air space during Obama visit

Sun Coverage

The Federal Aviation Administration says Las Vegas air space will be restricted for some traffic and closed to sightseeing air tours, gliders, parachutes and balloons during President Barack Obama's visit to the region.

Obama is due to arrive Thursday and leave Friday.

He's scheduled to attend a Democratic National Committee fundraiser, a Green Valley High School school town hall meeting, and a convention and tourism event at CityCenter.

The FAA says restrictions will be in place from 5:45 p.m. Thursday to 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Only airlines, law enforcement aircraft and air ambulances will be allowed within a 10- or 12-mile radius of McCarran International Airport.

Private aircraft within 30 miles of McCarran will have to file flight plans and remain in transponder and radio contact with air traffic control.
