Andy Gabel: Things I Love

Speed skating Olympic Silver Medalist, Andy Gabel, talks about his time competing in the Olympics and the things he loves about Las Vegas.

NBC's color commentator for short-track speed skating at the Winter Olympics, Andy Gabel, is no stranger to the sport. A member of the U.S speed skating team, Gabel competed in four Olympics, including the 1994 games, where he helped the U.S. take silver in the men's 5,000-meter relay. His passion for sports carried over into a successful business venture as president of Gabel Distributors, the largest supplier of continuous passive motion machines and cold therapy devices in Las Vegas.

Before Gabel took off for Vancouver, Canada, he chatted with Las Vegas Magazine about his top city picks.

The weather: Being from Chicago and talking to my family and friends that are freezing all the time in the winter — while the weather here is just fantastic.

24/7: I love that there's anything and everything to do at any time of the day. I don't take too much advantage of that, but the fact that you can is great.

Location: It's very close to Phoenix, San Diego, L.A. and southern Utah. There are a lot of places where you can go from Vegas in a short amount of time.

N9ne Steakhouse: You gotta have the steak there, of course.

Amore Pizza: I'm from Chicago and I have to have my Chicago-style pizza and that's one of the best places to go for that.

Destination city: I always have friends coming into this town. There are always people here for work or for a vacation. I've spent time with people that I haven't seen in years.

Danny Gans: I did get to see him a couple of times and the show

was just spectacular each and every time. It was my favorite show.

Golfing: I normally golf at Paiute Golf Resort, which is north of Las Vegas. I recently got a chance to play at Cascata, an extraordinary golf course on the way to Boulder City — that was just an amazing place.
